Born in 1983 in Anyang, South Korea, Joowon Jo lives and works in Paris. He grew up in Seoul where he worked as a designer. He also graduated from the School of Fine Arts in Angers, France.
Since 2012, Joowon’s project is to express a point where visible and invisible things are revealed and coexist by using several diverse materials. Today the artist elaborates the multidimensional ford stones by asking questions about the being of our time.
Today he starts a new series « Stepstones ».
He models stones in 3D, then does UV mapping on the surface of the stones, using his paints, (Ink and Light color on Paper) and he places these objects in a three-dimensional space to make a path. Through this process « Stepstones », the existence from the hand (Zu- Handensein) to the existence towards the sight (Vor-Handensein) as well as the existence of information (Bit) reappears.
Stepstones » functions as a common set of these three different levels (1-3, Zu-Vor-Bit) and finally, « Stepstones » can stabilize in its world. With these works, Joowon Jo elaborates stone paths by asking questions about the being of our time.
